Nicole Bakker is a (bio)materials scientist at MIT, design engineer of regenerative systems, author, public speaker and entrepreneur. As a catalyst for positive change, Circular Engine offers courses, workshops and hackathons to help (aspiring) entrepreneurs, designers, makers and engineers create sustainable products and business strategies in the circular economy. This leads to award-winning successes for organizations in waste treatment, aviation, construction, manufacturing, Formula E racing and coral reef restoration.
At MIT’s Media Lab, Nicole Bakker designed the foundation of the Global Community Bio Summit. She developed and characterized bio-based building materials during her Master in Design Engineering (MDE) at Harvard. Her book ‘Photovoltaics in Historical Built Environments’ (2013) is an interactive design manual that integrates solar technology with historical contexts.
